This fan art project is inspired by one of my favorite bands, Alvvays.
Their dreamy and vibrant jangle pop sound, rooted in 80s influences, has a way of transporting me to the best moments of my life: the excitement of my first year at university, and the unforgettable summer that followed — spent playing enless ping-pong game until midnight, watching Euro 2016 on bar terraces, and thinking about the girl I wanted to ask out… but didn’t.
Though released in 2014, their self-titled debut album evokes the charm of a bygone era in a way that feels both genuine and otherworldly. It carries a sense of nostalgia mixed with a surreal airiness. A bit like an unidentifiable object at a flea market.
This visual project focuses on two of my personal favorites from that album, Party Police and Red Planet. They make me feel as if I’m inside a mid-20th-century romantic comic. Through posters, logos, and other visuals, I aimed to create a playful aesthetic inspired by this style, drawing from various vintage comics with bold titles, halftone patterns, and vivid contrasts.
